room hotel planned for Dilworth site

A Charlotte real estate company Suns Channing Frye Jersey is planning to a build a 127 room hotel on a 1.2 acre site at the corner of East Worthington and Cleveland avenues in Dilworth.

The Rainier Group, an affiliate of real estate investment firm Catellus Group, officialbasketballstore.com/chandler-parsons-jersey has filed a rezoning petition for the property, which is owned by a limited liability company called Bailey Family of Mecklenburg County Alpha.

The planned hotel would have five floors of rooms plus a sixth story restaurant and bar with skyline views. The project would include a courtyard and pool, along with 120 underground parking spots. The Gerald Green Pink Jersey firm is including plans for up to six townhome units along Cleveland Avenue as well.

Catellus Group, headed by CEO Stephen Barker, has its headquarters on the same block, in a Charleston style row house at 217 E. Tremont Ave. Ben Cassarino, president of Catellus Group, says the proposed hotel would be a full service, upscale property, but the firm hasn't reached any agreements on what brand it might carry.

"With all the small businesses that are located in the Dilworth and South End area, we just think this is a terrific place for this type of use," he says. "I think it will be a great tie in with all the residential that's going up and the commercial (development) that will follow in the South End area. Other than The Morehead Inn and perhaps The Duke Mansion, you really don't really have any hospitality services in this area."

The project falls within City Council District 1, which is represented by Billy Maddalon, managing owner of Unique Southern Estates, the company that operates The Morehead Inn. A public hearing on the rezoning is scheduled for January.

Catellus Group primarily focuses on acquiring value add properties in the hospitality, retail, office and industrial sectors. Through affiliates, the firm owns three properties along East Boulevard, near the corner of Cleveland Avenue, where several years ago it planned a 75 room boutique hotel called The Dilworth Inn, a project that has since been shelved.
